Our partner of the month for May is Powerhouse Transportation! We caught up with Scott to chat with him about how the company got started and what keeps them trucking.

  • Please tell us a little more about your business:

Powerhouse Transportation is a small carrier that normally does driving and hopper freight in the Midwest.

  • When did you get started?

I started Powerhouse Transportation in 2010.

  • What is most challenging about what you do for a living?

Government over-reach and regulation and lack of control of the brokers and their multiple commissions structure. We truck because we want to be free and don’t want anyone looking over our shoulders telling us how to run our business.

  • What advice would you give to someone just starting out in this business?

Value yourself and don’t be afraid to look for factoring. Make sure to plan out your hauls and make sure you’re taking care of yourself.

  • How do you keep a work-life balance?

I believe that my home life is most important. We all manage what we want to do based on profit margins and time at home with our loved ones. I developed a “honeypot” situation that stays within 400 miles of home so I’m never too far away from home.

  • How is your experience working with Pay4Freight?

It’s important to have people that understand the business and maintain relationships with. The beauty of P4F is that I look at them as an extension of my office and know I can trust them.
