Our partner of the month for October is Charles Howard from CCH Trucking. We caught up with Charles to chat with him about how the company got started and what keeps them trucking.

  • Please tell us a little more about your business.

I run a trucking service called CCH Trucking, covering a four-state area. We provide general freight throughout Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Arkansas.

  • When did you get started?

I started my own business in 1994 but have had my CDL (Commerical Drivers Licence) since 1968, when I was 18 years old.

  • What is most challenging about what you do for a living?

It can definitely be a struggle to deal with various rules and regulations sometimes. Having been in this profession for so long, it can sometimes be a real challenge sticking with what you’ve always known while times continue to change.

  • What advice would you give to someone just starting out in this business?

To be successful, you’ve got to like what you’re doing. If you don’t like this stuff; driving trucks and constantly being out on the road, the solitude, then this certainly isn’t for you.

  • How do you keep a work-life balance?

At a younger age it was difficult but now that I’m at a post-retirement age, I’m home just about every other day. I’ve got grandchildren to help look after these days, so it’s great that I can come back home so often.

  • Anything you’d like to add?

I just really love what I do. See you on the road!
