You know how it works, the more you haul, the more you make. With the official national weight limit at 40 tons, there are quite a few places on the books – such as Main and Vermont – that are allowing up to 100,000 pounds on interstates. But not everyone is happy. Critics say that heavy trucks make things less safe because they are harder to control and stop and create more damage on the roads.

We all know it, those pesky fuel prices are all over the place eating into profits, messing with your cash flow… so what is a trucker supposed to do? Well, if you haven’t optimized what you’ve got, you can get started with our seven quick and dirty tips to reduce your fuel costs:
#1 No So Fast, Speedy
This is the easiest and cheapest way to get better fuel economy. For example driving 63mph instead of 68 can increase you mpg by 10%! It’s also easier on the engine.
#2 Stop Idling
No, we’re not talking about being lazy on the job, but idling your truck. Every hour you do that burns a gallon of fuel. If you get an aux power unit it will burn less the .3 gallons per hour.
#3 Check the Tire Pressure
If you under inflate, but as little as 4 psi, you could lose up to 5% or more in fuel economy. Plus your treads will live longer as they are not as close to the ground.
#4 Plan That Route
Yep. It’s a simple as that. Plan out your route before you go and eliminate unnecessary stops along the way.
#5 Aerodynamics Can Help
A number of after market add-ons, skirts, and things like Freight Wing Skirts can help. One of our clients got another mile to the gallon after doing this.
Hope these 5 ways helped! Talk to you soon. Your trucking factoring company of choice, Pay4Freight.

#2 Freight Bill Factoring Rates and Pricing
One easy way to get burned involves just signing off before understanding what you signed up for! Read those contracts, understand the rates, and don’t feel inferior if you have to ask for things to be explained again or in a different way.
#3 Customer Service
You are the client. So you should be treated respectfully and positively from the get-go. Since freight factoring involves so many decisions it’s important that you know they answer the phone, emails, and help you out when processing all those documents.
#4 Customer Reviews and Testimonials
Check up on their customers. Ask to call a few. Look on their website for any reviews or testimonials. Finally, Google search the company name and then add the word “reviews” on the end of it or “testimonials”. This should turn up some stuff.
#5 Fuel Advances
In this day and age, with the fuel pricing fluctuating wildly, you may have the loads but you don’t have the fuel to run them. So a trucking factoring company that offers fuel advances goes a long way.

According to American Trucking Associations index truck tonnage climbed 5.9% in September. This should be a good sign for any of you wondering about the recession and the current economy. Interestingly enough this is the 22nd year with of increase that began in December 2009.
“I continue to believe the economy will skirt another recession because truck tonnage isn’t showing signs that we are in a recession,” said Bob Costello the ATA Chief Economist. “Tonnage is suggesting that we are in a weak growth period for the economy, but not a recession.” This could also signal some gains in the 3rd quarter coming this year.
As always, we keep our freight bill factoring ready for you to keep you rolling with good, hard cash.
